How this site is made
This site follows the standard I apply to my research: whatever helped make it, the result should be open to checking.
Built with
The site is plain HTML and CSS, with no build step and no framework, hosted on GitHub Pages. Its full source, including every past version, is public at github.com/kailicao/kailicao.github.io. It has a dark mode that follows your device, works without JavaScript except on the Huarongdao Solver, and lets you zoom on any device.
Written with AI assistance
The text is written with AI assistance (Claude) and reviewed by me, as every page's footer says. Drafts start from my own materials: my dissertation, papers, slides and teaching notes. I check the facts against the papers, decide what to say, and take responsibility for every sentence. How I think about AI in my work is on Working with AI.
Figures
Figures and images come from these kinds of sources, and each caption says which:
- my own papers, credited to the paper (most are published under a CC BY 4.0 license);
- my own slides and posters;
- NASA, credited as NASA asks, and ESA/Webb, credited as it asks (CC BY 4.0);
- illustrations made for this site with AI assistance, labeled as illustrations or simulations, never as research results;
- my portrait, taken by Michigan Photography.
The small icons beside section headings are drawn for this site.
Privacy
The site sets no cookies, runs no analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from other servers. GitHub, which hosts it, may keep standard server logs. Pop-up definitions on the science pages use a small script; if you turn them off, that choice is kept only in your browser tab for the visit. If you hide the Contents box or the highlights, your browser remembers that on your device; nothing is sent anywhere.
Reusing this site
Unless a page says otherwise, the text and my own figures are licensed under CC BY 4.0: you may reuse them, including in slides and teaching, if you credit "Kaili Cao, kailicao.github.io." Figures credited to NASA, ESA/Webb or published papers follow their sources' terms, and my portrait is not covered by this license. Code on this site, such as the Huarongdao solver, is under the MIT license. To cite my software, see Software.
